Dr. Joseph Conigliaro serves as the Division Chief of General Internal Medicine and the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the Department of Medicine at Northwell Health. He is also the Manuel H. and Claire Barron Professor of Medicine and Vice President of the Faculty Council at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Prior to joining Northwell, he was Director of Practice Based Research and Professor of Medicine at NYU and the NYU-HHC CTSI, where he advanced the development of practice-based research bridging NYU and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC). Prior to joining NYU, He was a tenured Professor of Medicine and Health Services Management at the University of Kentucky (UK) Colleges of Medicine and Public Health from 2005 to 2010 and founding Director of the UK Center for Enterprise Quality and Safety and the UK Center for Biomedical Informatics. Prior to that he was Chief of the Implementation Core for the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion at the Pittsburgh VA and the University of Pittsburgh and Associate Co-Director for Research for the VISN4 Mental Illness, Research, Education, and Clinical Center at the Pittsburgh VA. He was also an Assistant/Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh from 1993 to 2005. His research has centered primarily on the evaluation of provider behavior change, brief interventions to reduce hazardous drinking using computer interfaces, health care disparities, implementation of best practices to improve quality and patient safety and most recently social determinants of health. He has a background in implementation and health services research as it pertains to quality and patient safety and experience in designing curricula in implementation research, quality and patient safety. He has a strong history of mentoring young faculty and fellows at Northwell, NYU, University of Kentucky and the University of Pittsburgh, who have successfully obtained peer reviewed independent funding and NIH K awards and VA career development awards. He received his BA in biochemistry at New York University. He obtained his medical degree at the Harvard Medical School, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center, and received his MPH from the University of Pittsburgh.
