Dr. Mohsen Bannazadeh, MD, FACS, FSVS, RPVI, is a board-certified vascular surgeon and Associate Professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He serves as the Director of Aortic Surgery for Northwell Health's Central Region and the Associate Program Director for the Vascular Surgery Residency and Fellowship Programs. His career has been defined by a deep commitment to the management of complex aortic pathology-particularly aortic aneurysms and dissections-as well as the comprehensive treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and venous disorders. Dr. Bannazadeh completed his medical education at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, where he honed his interest in vascular innovation and endovascular therapy. He pursued his general surgery training at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and completed a vascular surgery fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. These formative years laid the foundation for a career focused on the intersection of advanced surgical techniques, minimally invasive endovascular interventions, and academic leadership. At the core of Dr. Bannazadeh's clinical practice is the care of patients with life-threatening and limb-threatening vascular conditions. He has developed a regional reputation for his expertise in managing thoracoabdominal and pararenal aortic aneurysms, including the use of branched and fenestrated endografts for complex endovascular repair. His leadership was central to Northwell Health's first successful complex endovascular treatment of a pararenal aortic aneurysm with bilateral iliac aneurysms using the Gore TAMBE device and iliac branched extensions-a milestone in regional vascular care. In addition to his aortic work, Dr. Bannazadeh has been a strong advocate for patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia. He has led limb salvage programs aimed at reducing amputations and improving quality of life for patients with advanced PAD. His multidisciplinary approach to vascular care-incorporating interventional radiology, podiatry, and wound care-has become a model for integrated vascular services. He has also contributed to the advancement of venous disease management, utilizing modern ablation techniques, deep venous interventions, and comprehensive venous ulcer care. Dr. Bannazadeh's academic career reflects his passion for surgical education and clinical excellence. He has previously served as Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Stony Brook Medicine, where he was instrumental in restructuring the educational curriculum and expanding clinical exposure to complex vascular pathology. He is a dedicated mentor and educator, recognized with multiple teaching awards including the Fabio Giron Attending of the Year Award for three consecutive years. His research portfolio includes peer-reviewed publications on aortic dissection, endovascular aneurysm repair, arterial and venous revascularization strategies, and surgical education.
