BIO

Christine L. Sardo Molmenti, PhD, MPH, is an assistant professor within the Institute of Health System Science at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. She serves as the chair of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable Advanced Adenoma Working Group. In this role, she led the development of the Advanced Colorectal Polyp GI Brief, a nationally recognized document endorsed by the American Cancer Society as an essential document on the epidemiology of advanced colorectal polyps and review of professional screening guidelines for colorectal cancer. The GI Brief also serves as a communication tool for endoscopists to not only focus on advanced colorectal. Previous work In her role as clinical trials manager of cancer chemoprevention trials in the molecular carcinogenesis and chemoprevention program at The Ohio State University NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (2003-2009), Dr. Molmenti was integrally involved in the design, conduct, implementation and oversight of five cancer chemoprevention clinical trials using dietary constituents concentrated in polyphenols (i.e., black raspberries) among colorectal, esophageal, otolaryngology and familial adenomatous polyposis patients. This included phase 1 pharmacokinetic and phase Ib/IIa clinical trials within a multidisciplinary collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic, University of Texas San Antonio, and Peking Health Sciences in Beijing, China. During her doctoral work at the University of Arizona (2009-2013), Dr. Molmenti designed, implemented and analyzed epidemiologic pooling studies investigating dietary factors and sedentary behavior related to colorectal adenoma recurrence among >2500 participants enrolled in two NCI-funded, randomized placebo-controlled phase III chemoprevention clinical trials investigating wheat bran fiber and ursodeoxcholic acid. Related to these studies, she conducted a pilot clinical trial among 10 overweight and obese adults in order to investigate the role of black raspberries in mitigating systemic inflammatory mediators among otherwise healthy adults. Postdoctoral training Dr. Molmenti's postdoctoral training involved the conduct of behavioral interventions for breast and colorectal cancer survivors. These interventions included a multi-center Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) feasibility study of a physical activity and dietary change weight loss intervention in breast and colorectal cancer survivors, as well as the randomized Breast Cancer Family-based Intervention Trial (BFIT), investigating a clinical/behavioral intervention to increase uptake of breast cancer prevention strategies among female first-degree relatives of women with breast cancer. She was also co-investigator on the Microbiome Exercise Tracking Study and received the Society for Integrative Oncology Early Investigator Award for her work regarding complementary and alternative medicine use among post-menopausal women in the Sister Study Cohort (a National Institutes of Health study of the environmental and genetic risk factors for breast cancer).
